2018 CSMTA National AGM
& Sports Medicine Conference

Hello everyone, this year’s National Sports Medicine Conference and AGM was held in Richmond, Vancouver BC and was it a conference to experience. This was my first time heading out to BC and it was great. Here’s just a summary of the adventures that happened over the weekend. Let the fun begin!!!
Day 1 evening: Information session and AGM
This evening session was to give members and students and update on how to collect your hours, creating your Curriculum Vitae (CV) and any questions the audience had. We then celebrated those members that had 15 years or more being a part of the association. And I am excited to tell you, that Karen Hyslop – Gibson, one of our members’, has received this accolade. So CONGRATULATIONS to you Karen!!!! We will be sending out this information about the hours and CV, so please check your emails.
Day 2 Full day: Psycho-Emotional Challenges of the Manual Therapist, Hands on Techniques and Hot Seat Guests
As a group we all experienced Carl Niehuis, and he talked about the Psycho-Emotional Challenges of the Manual Therapist Professional Practice. We talked about how HCP communicate to their clients and how that might affect them. And how clients communicate to HCP and how they might affect us. Carl then gave us some tools on how to recognize areas of challenge and the tools to address those challenges. And to make sure you have a referral system, if you as a therapist, can’t do something. Use your referral list to refer out. Your clients will thank you for it. Another take home message: Get a massage on the regular basis. TREAT YOURSELF.
